Welcome to my site. On this site I will share information regarding school psychology at Hudson Jr. High, school psychology in general, and information to help you and your child achieve success in school. I will be slowly adding links to external websites that I feel have good information for both parents and teachers. Feel free to check them out, there may be some helpful information.

PBIS at Hudson Jr. High
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports is up and running in Hudson Jr. High. We note students of the month, who are nominated by teachers and provided with a rewarding experience during school. Select Fridays students who are doing well both academically and behaviorally are allowed to wear hats during school, cut to the front of the lunch line, along with other rewards. Students can also earn quarterly passports that allow increased freedom in the building. We are setting up a system to provide further assistance to students that have demonstrated a greater need for help. We will be forming groups that will check-in with a teacher at the beginning of every school day and will track their positive behaviors, with teacher help, throughout the school day. Homework Tips
Homework is often seen as a struggle between parents and student, but it doesn't always have to be. While there are numerous tips and strategies to help parents and their children with homework, I've compiled some that are extremely common and helpful.
- create a routine for homework, doing it at the same time and place every day, and for the same length of time. A good rule of thumb is to allow approximately 10 mintues per grade up to an hour (7th graders would be 70 minutes, or an hour).
- Have children do their homework in a location that mimics the classroom as much as possible. This would ideally include a seat at a table with good lighting and all the necessary tools (pencils, paper, calculator...).
- Create an example for your children - when they do homework, you do homework.
- Be positive about homework for everybody, and feel free to provide rewards for progress on homework.
- If your child asks for help, provide guidance instead of answers. \
- Homework is best when it is meant to practice what has already been taught and learned in class, unfortunately, sometimes is goes beyond this (such as having to make up work from an absence). Stay informed on what is happening in your child's class and you'll be better prepared to guide them through the learning that will need to take place during these situations.
